The New Year got off to a flying start at Rush Golf Club as a large crowd of club-members turned out to welcome their new Captain, George Roberts, and Lady Captain, Renee Flannery, for the annual drive-in last weekend.
Both new Captains are thrilled to have taken up their duties in the Millennium year and have big plans for the months ahead.
The ladies will be busy also with the main focus of the years enjoyment centred on a 20-member golfing (and associated activities) trip to Spain in April, and Lady Captain, Renee Flannery from Portmarnock, will be happy to be part of a hectic year.
“There’s about 80 lady members at the moment with more coming in all the time, and we had a really smashing time last year under a great Lady Captain, Shiela Lacy, and we just want to repeat that this year.” she said.

“The ladies did very well in competition in 1999 at events like the Captain’s Prize at Rathfarnham, and at the K Club, and I’m eager to see that success repeated during my time as Captain.”

“I really love the club and the atmosphere here and hope 2000 will be a great year for all members.”

So there’s lots in store for the new Captain’s in the months ahead, and both George and Renee were eager to wish each other, the new committee, and all members a happy and successful year both on and off the course.
